Well it's great to have a break from the recent dull weather we've had because it's been a lovely sunny winters day here and the mutt and I got out for an earlier walk to make the most of it, when I got back home I decided to make a card for this weeks One Layer Wednesday at Susan's blog Simplicity. I used to play along regularly so I need to get back to that routine, it's always good to stretch the creative braincells with a OLC !!!
Perhaps it was my sunny walk that inspired me to tackle this weeks challenge today, although our walk did involve a fair bit of squelchy mud too!, but I used this Penny Black border stamp and embossed it in white, then coloured the leaves and flowers with coloursoft pencils and used enamel accents for the flower centres.
It was at this point I realised I had not thought about the sentiment.... not black! (which would have looked too harsh anyway), so I stamped and embossed again... whilst holding my breath! Oh it could have gone so wrong at this point but I think I got away with it :0)
I had been trying a technique from card class which is to colour the white embossed lines but Jennifer McGuire used Prismacolour pencils and my coloursoft guys just weren't going to play nicely and do the same thing so I settled for colouring in between the lines and I have to say I'm impressed with the pop of pink on the grey!
I'm linking this up to Simon Says Stamp this week as they have an 'Anything Goes' challenge to win a $50 store voucher :0)
This weekend in the UK it's the RSPB's Big Garden Birdwatch 2012, I hope you can join in and record the feathered visitors to your garden for an hour either Saturday or Sunday, details can be found on the RSPB website here on how to take part. We usually make it a family occasion because you need that many eyes to count them!!
Thanks for your visit today :0)

I love the grey base card Jenny - it gives the card a Morris wallpaper feel.

The pops of colour are lovely Jenny and the scored lines really accent this gorgeous card :)
ReplyDeleteThis is so pretty and cheery. I wouldn't have thought that a grey card could be so cheery--I've mulling this challenge over for ideas, since I love OLW--you really nailed it.
ReplyDeleteFabulous pop of color!!
ReplyDeleteHi Jenny
ReplyDeleteThis is gorgeous.
Great use of that Penny Black border stamp. The embossing is a great finishing touch.
The grey base card looks brill!
Have a great weekend.
Love Jules xx
Gorgeous! I do like the softness of the white and grey, the colour pops nicely!
ReplyDeleteSo pretty, Jenny! And you certainly did get away with stamping the sentiment later, it looks like it was always there. :-) I haven't tried my Inktense pencils over white embossing yet, not sure if they'll do the job, or not! Enjoy the birdwatching! That sounds like fun.
ReplyDeleteThis is BEAUTIFUL, Jenny!! LOVE the white on gray...that border stamp is so lovely...and the white against the gray with your pop of color in your flowers, well, Jenny...absolutely stunning!! I know what you mean about the sentiment AFTER...yours looks perfect!!
ReplyDeleteYour OLC on gray looks fantastic Jenny. I want to try this. I don't use my colored pencils much sadly.
ReplyDeleteThis is stunning, Jenny! I love the tiny flowers and scored lines. Enjoy your weekend!

Such a gorgeous CAS card, Jenny. I love the floral design and colour combo is fabulous.
ReplyDeleteWe have quite a lot of blackbirds who have taken up residence in or garden, and for some reason they start their dawn chorus well before dawn at around 2.30 am!! Which is quite annoying:)
such a *pretty* card!
ReplyDeleteA very pretty card!
ReplyDeleteYou are so brilliant at OLC Jenni! This is fab!

ReplyDeleteYou totally got away with it - this is gorgeous! I know what you mean about holding your breath like that though - I have those moments regularly!
ReplyDeleteLove how that pink really pops - glad you ended up colouring inside the lines. :) Hope you have another sunny day tomorrow with lots of birdie visitors!
Jenny, that is a tricky thing -- to emboss and then have to emboss again, never know how that will go...however you did it perfectly! I love the colors, the pretty flower border stamp, and the great pop of color. Perfect for the OLW challenge! I haven't been there for a while, either...I need to get back into it. You have inspired me!
ReplyDeleteJenny, your card is beautiful. I love that you choose the gray as your paper color and stamped in white. Gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteThis is really pretty with the pop of pink. Glad you had a decent "squelch" with your dog! x
ReplyDeleteAnother beautiful card Jenny, its always nice seeing what you have made and i always enjoy your posts. The bird watching really does sound like fun, i don't think there is anything like that here in Australis
ReplyDeleteI love the white embossing and the pop of pink is fab! I know just what you mean about holding your breath with the sentiment - so worth it though! Vicky x
ReplyDeleteSo how many birds did you count? That sounds like great fun :) We keep having funny upswings in temperature (ranging more than 20C in a day, which is simply insane!) and I can't stand the mud. Funny to say I'd prefer weeks of -20C to the occasional +10C day, but I would!
ReplyDeleteI love the colouring - and I want to try it! I often wonder if my Prismas are different from everyone else's since those techniques aren't easy for me either. And I soooo hear you on holding your breath for the sentiment. Sometimes those cards end up without one, lol :)
This is so pretty, Jenny! I could never be that brave and do the sentiment afterward - impressive!
ReplyDeleteThis is just too cute--so pretty! LOVE the use of the roller! :)
ReplyDeleteWonderful one-layer card, Jenny. I really like how you've used a gray card base for this challenge. Ann Y.
ReplyDeleteSO VERY pretty love this colour combo
ReplyDeleteHI Jenny, I don't know how I missed this little beauty, it is a right smasher, love it, Gay xxx
