Otherwise Engaged!!

EDITED TO ADD: Thanks to the ladies at CASology for selecting my card as a winner in the Giggle challenge... it literally was a fun challenge to play along with :0)

Good morning :0)
Two posts in two days!!!..... that's unheard of round here, but.....

...... after tuning into Less is More yesterday morning and seeing a sketch staring back at me I knew it was time to put an idea I've had, simmering on the back burner, into action especially with the Giggle challenge at CASology calling to me too.....

This is the first 'slider' interactive card I think I've made (it took long enough so I should remember!) .... the stamps are freebies from the front of Craft Stamper magazine and it is they that set the seeds of creativity!!
Apologies to Chrissie and Jen -The actual imagery fits the sketch at LiM although the raised panel is larger because of the logistics of the interactive piece..... I hope that's okay??
Oh yes, here are the photos of the action in the correct order....

I was torn between using AVAILABLE and FREE.... (vacant just wasn't going to do)  I think either would be fun..... this is just the style of card that I'm drawn to in the shops :0)

I don't have the equipment for video tutorials and anyhow this would be an epic so I have shot a few photos of the workings on this card as I assembled it...

That makes it look a lot easier than it was and I suppose if you take out all the phaffing about and having to remake the front panel again!!!.... it was :0)

Okay, that's a lot of scrolling down for everyone for one day!! I just have two more pics to include so I don't get in trouble...

Thanks for making it to the end and hope you had a giggle too :0)

Inspiration Sparks!!

It's been quiet here this week because I've been enjoying the springtime weather, it's good to finally see the spring bulbs blooming and the grass greening up..... the swallows are back too, giving us an acrobatic air display over the garden :0)
Yesterday, however, was a crafting kind of day and whilst roaming round the challenge blogs the photo at Paper Smooches Sparks blog grabbed my creative attention....

I know those flowers in the photo are really cupcakes but I thought my 'Needle Little Love' stamp set needed a little love itself so my flowers are the sewn on kind and the dotty flash of ribbon is a border stamp heat embossed on a strip of SU Island Indigo card . Having seen Savannah's video tutorial for stitching on cards, I was inspired to use a some thread on my card too.... not quite brave enough to try stitching over that sentiment though!!

See those perfectly matched gems???.... they aren't real, however big your stash you never have the perfect colour do you!! So I faked it with some Adirondack dimensional acrylic paint. After a few practice spots on scrap I held my breath and hand steady and went for it.... I have to say I'm pretty chuffed with them... you'd never know the difference would you??
Here's the inspiration photo...
Addicted to CAS are having a flower challenge at the moment so I'll pop it in over there too :0)

I'm not the only one enjoying the spring weather.... our Lakeland 'terror' had his first wash cut and blow dry of the year this week and is now sporting a sleek short back and sides instead of the walking doormat look!!
... and yes he does know how cute he looks :0)

Father's Chair

I was excited to see a different style of challenge at Less is More this week.... CASE-ing Jen or Chrissie's card, or both if you choose to!! Well Chrissie has used a technique I have wanted to try for a while so I didn't need to think twice....

It seems that you need a solid image for this technique, something that's easy to replicate on a second piece of card so I had a rummage through my stamps to find I don't have an extensive choice of designs which made deciding on a theme easier!!
This armchair is from a small Lawn Fawn set called Dad's Day stamped in SU More Mustard and over stamped with Hero Arts Envelope background using SU Soft Suede. I thought matching up would be tricky but the criss-cross pattern is quite forgiving.... shading is added using a prisma pencil for some depth :0)
I'm pretty pleased with it... not sure if the lettering should be more raised but I don't think it's too camouflaged at that depth!!
Here's another view...

Here are the two inspiration cards this week... how do they inspire you??

A Hipster-Potamus!!

Something a little different from me today!!
This is my make for today's DT post over at Make the Day Special... I wasn't sure about this little guy when he first came into the store but I decided to give him a home and this is his first time getting inked!!

I found a tub of painted balsa wood tags in my stash so I thought I'd have a play... he's stamped with Black Stazon and coloured with Prisma Pencils,  looks kinda cute how his face follows the shape of the tag!!

The back of the tag was left raw so I covered it with patterned paper and added a speech bubble for the Hip Hip Hip Hooray :0)

He's coated with clear matt varnish to protect him from knocks and scratches and he's just looking for a bunch of keys to call home now....at least the keys wont get lost, he's quite large :0)

Thanks for your visit today, hope you have a great weekend :0)

'Fin'tastic!!!

Hello there :0)

It's a very tricky challenge this week at Less is More.... one layer week and a card inspired by a film!!!
Luckily it doesn't have to be a favourite film because this one is certainly not !!..... although it's pretty iconic and easy for you to guess....

.... yep it's Jaws!! I do remember watching it but not for long and mostly from behind a comic or magazine!!
Funny when you look back, with film animation and computer graphics as they are nowadays, you realise how plastic Jaws really looked :0)

When you open this card you'll see this little chap from Clearly Besotted stamps is not such a scary shark either, although his teeth still look sharp!!

I know, I know... sorry for another punny sentiment, it's how my brain works I'm afraid and the only way I could make this a usable card with a shark in it :0) I coloured him with promarkers and wrapped a strip of vellum across him for the water. The sentiment is stamped using a Lawn Fawn Alphabet, very handy when you're making up punny sentiments and they are so easy to line up on the acrylic block too :0)

Thanks for your visit today :0)

Woo Hoo!!

Edited to add: Woo-Hoo thanks to the DT at CAS(e) this Sketch for selecting my card
Hi there,

I'm off to The Big Stamp and Scrapbooking Show at Alexandra Palace today... really looking forward to browsing and meeting up with some crafting pals too :0)  ...before I go (like I'm writing this on a Saturday morning!!) I thought I would share my entry for this weeks CAS(e) this Sketch.... it's a fun sketch using an angle I haven't tried before in a design!!

The Critters in the Forest stamp set from Lawn Fawn is new to me and I just love that pine tree for building scenes like this. I originally had the idea of a treetop vista but when I saw the sketch I changed it up to a hillside treetop vista and with the birdie singing from the highest perch it had to be a congrats/well done style card :0)  I got a bit stuck where to place the sentiment but I think the yellow tab works and gives it a comic book strip feel too... what do you think? I wonder what happens in the next scene?? Lol

Thanks for your visit :0)

The Hungry Caterpillar!!

Hello there...

Against all odds I stole some crafting time this morning and left the washing machine to occupy James for a while so I could join in with this weeks Lime and Black colour challenge at Less is More :0)
This months sponsor is Clearly Besotted stamps and I have recently bought the Build a Bug set which lends itself perfectly to the colours as Jen demonstrated in her cute inspiration card.

I need a Thank You card and this hungry caterpillar and punny sentiment idea was born!!!
Originally this little guy was stamped directly onto the card but I made a bit of an oops with the stamping and had to cover him up with stamped punched circles.... I think I managed to save it quite well *phew*

Whilst I'm here I thought I'd blow my trumpet a little and tell you that I have my first DT card in Craft Stamper this month... also made using Clearly Besotted stamps coincidently !!
All I can show you is a sneak peak....

Of course the pro photographers at CS have given it the star treatment in the photo shoot for the magazine...... it's so exciting to see it in all it's glossy glory *insert proud grin*

A Masculine Border!

Hello There,

Just a quick post this evening, it's been a long weekend of travelling about and I'm shattered!! Yesterday was my Nephews birthday and this is the card I made him using the gorgeous colour palette from the Play Date Cafe..

I've used a border from Lawn Fawns Interlocking Backdrops and cut away some of the rectangles whilst adding others in Grey patterned paper and raising them on foam pads..... I thought it made a good pattern for a guys card and it also reminds me of Parquet flooring too..... not that that's particularily masculine.... hehe :0)

Hannah is now safely back at Uni which is the reason for most of the travelling this weekend, just seven weeks left... unbelievable!!! James has his second week of Easter break so still not sure how much crafting will get done this week either so I'll pop in when I can :0)

More than a Big Bloom

Hello there :0)

Crafting time is going to be non existent this week with the big kids at home so I thought I'd just show you the three cards I made for my Make the Day Special DT post on Saturday. I've used the Big Bloom die from Paper Smooches which is a set of three flower shaped dies made to go with the Bold Blooms stamp set, the middle sized die is the perfect fit for the large flower which is how I've used it on this card along with the loopy leaf die too....

They also make good shapes for three different sized trees or putting together to make one tree with some dimension. I used a tree trunk from the Spring Groves stamp set and digi papers from Pink Petticoat. Love the little bird house for a New Home card :0)

By cutting the blooms in half you can make fluffy clouds with them for any scene and a good way to use up those scraps of patterned paper too :0)

This last card just happens to fit in with the cue word at CASology this week which is 'Up' so I'll pop it in over there now :0)

You can find a selection of the new Paper Smooches dies in the UK at Make the Day Special, they are just part of a range of American Stamp companies in stock..... you can click here to explore the store :0)
