I'm back with a second card for Less is More because I just had to try the emboss resist technique, I'm inspired by Chrissie's fabulous cards using this technique, they always look so elegant and unique :)
I totally fluffed my my first attempt at the weekend, so, learning from my mistakes I had a second go and I also finally managed to get the right 'sandwich' combo to emboss a nestie frame on my bigshot, thanks to Lynn for your help :)
I decided to go with Holly for the one layer 'LEAVES' theme and get a Christmas card done and dusted... many more to go mind you !!
After masking and inking the heat embossed pattern I used Ruby Red Liquid Pearls to highlight the berries and water-coloured the leaves with Adirondack ink to make them stand out a fraction.
Unfortunately the printer got it's own back this time, after being so good on my Poinsettia card, and splodged a bit of ink on the bottom right corner when I printed the sentiment.... so now the card is a little bit shorter than your average A6 size!!
My big problem with embossing these nestie dies is that they tend to move whilst going through the bigshot, using masking tape is not successful as it sticks fast even when I've made it less tacky beforehand! This time it stayed put but does anyone have any other tips or ideas???
I have to say I really love the finished result and this may well be one of my Christmas card designs for 2011, although me and the printer are going to fall out if it plays that little trick on me again!!
Thanks for looking X
Edit to add : The sentiment is a Digi from Pink Petticoat
Stamps : Funstamps 'holly'
Inks : Versamark, Peeled Paint and Shabby Shutters Distress Ink-pads, Pesto and Meadow Adirondack Ink-pads.
Other : Ruby Red Liquid Pearls, Rectangle Nestie Frame, Clear Embossing Powder.
Sentiment : Pink Petticoat

ohh what a lovely Christmas card- love the font you hsve used!
ReplyDeleteRebecca
Superb Christmas card and love the sentiment which font is it if you don't mind me asking?
ReplyDeleteThat's lovely - I like the embossing with the Nestie after inking idea, although I think I'd have used a scoring board cos I'm a coward, lol. Glad you persevered, though - it's a lovely effect. Love your Greeting, too - and the font used x
ReplyDeleteI've been wanting to try the embossed nestie... the words 'potential disaster' came to mind, might just have to give it a go now. Thanks for the inspiration (again). This card is CAS perfection, Love it!
ReplyDeleteOh, Jenny, I've missed being able to visit you. I think your printer is related to mine. I have better luck stamping a sentiment even though I stamp crooked half the time. I'm thankful for punches! I LOVE this card. Beautiful holly and embossing and I love the sentiment.
ReplyDeleteWell, I think our printers must be friends because I have similar issues (at least when printing cards!). I admire your beautiful embossed nestie...I can't figure that out for the life of me! Your card is gorgeous, love the added colors to the leaves for highlights. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteReally really spectacular and striking! That sentiment is perfect. I like to use washi tape to not make the nesties move, or a cheaper alternative is post it notes, which I use when I have on hand.
ReplyDeleteI love how bright and festive and shiny this is! That sentiment font is fabulous, too.
ReplyDeleteI was going to give the same suggestions as Karen B, but sometimes I still have sticky issues!
This is gorgeous! Love the embossed Nestie frame and the holly is gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteYou cursed yourself talking about the printer the other day! LOL! That's always the way. Thankfully this was an easy fix!
That font rocks. I have a ton of Pink Petticoat stuff on my computer and never remember to use it!
I use small pieces of artist's / painter's tape to hold my Nesties down. It comes off nice and easy.
This is beautiful, Jenny. I love your holly leaves and berries, and what a fab sentiment. I tried to do an embossed frame the other day, and had some wiggling, too. You've obviously got it figured out because it looks perfect. I like the idea in the previous comment about using post-its. :) Ann Y.
ReplyDeletebeautiful embossing. Perfect christmas card.
ReplyDeleteI am so going to try this embossed nestie idea - it looks fabulous :) Love your sentiment, what font did you use?
ReplyDeleteA great finished look Jenny and well worth all the effort.
ReplyDeleteI have never tried embossing with a nestie like this .. .. might have to give it a try.
Thanks for the inspiration.
Love Jules xx
This is a lovely christmas card.
ReplyDeleteyou put my PURCHASED cards to shame miss jenny, that is amazing, i would never be able to part with it!
ReplyDeleteBeautifull Christmas card Jenny i havent tried this nestie embossing yet but will give it a go and have you tried the magnetic sheets to hold your dies from Once Upon A Stamp they are perfect for cutting appetures in any place on your main card and could work for this Luv Sue x
ReplyDeleteThis is gorgeous Jenny

Smashing card and super image

Wow Jenny, your card is stunning! Love Love Love!!! Hugs x x
ReplyDeleteLove the idea of making a frame with your nestabilities and the holly looks great.
ReplyDeleteYou need to share the magic "sandwich" recipe with us the next time you do this, so that I can try it too! Your card looks great!
ReplyDeleteYou were right in your comment about not looking before entering a challenge. I scared myself out of another challenge recently, you'd think I'd learn my lesson, LOL! I find my creative thoughts get clogged up with other people's ideas and I get "stampers-block" if I look before I create. ;-) Lucky this time I had an idea formed already.
You've created a lovely card. Great technique!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous Jenny - love the colours and the pearl highlights. Really pretty font too.
ReplyDeleteI use a magnetic sheet to keep my nesties in place - you may have to tweak your bigshot layers as they can be a bit thick but it keeps them where you want them.

Gorgeous card Jenny, I love the inking work you have done and the sentiment is fab! xx
ReplyDeleteBrilliant card! I do like the embossed nestie frames, but I also find they slip when I try this technique and I've yet to find a non-tacky tape that doesn't mark or stick!!!
ReplyDeleteGreat colouring and the sentiment is just brillinat!
Fabulous Jenny. Love the resist technique, it works so well with the holly. I`m so pleased my tip with the nesties worked, looks brilliant.

Loved this card. You did great job. The embossing with the nesties just makes it. I too have trouble remembering the sandwich order. TFS
ReplyDeleteA fabulous Christmas card, so very festive, and a great use of techniques.
ReplyDeleteI feel really flattered by your words Jenny!
ReplyDeleteI do love this technique and you have made a fabulous job of this card.
As to keeping the Nesties still, I sometimes use Post its to keep them still or slip a magnetic sheet under the die as part of the sandwich.
Super job !
Thanks so much
Chrissie
"Less is More"
Your card is beautiful Jenny! I love the look of your card, even if you had to trim it (I wouldn't have known). I've used painters' tape (I bought way too much a couple of years ago). It sticks too, but I let it BARELY touch the card.
ReplyDeleteOh I love it! The resist panel looks fab and so does your embossed nestie. Absolutely gorgeous sentiment, think I'll have to get those... although I'd better check I haven't already got them first, just like me to forget buying digi stuff lol :o)
ReplyDeleteI use masking tape to hold dies in place, and then peel it off verrrry slowly - seems to work fine most of the time. Lisa x
Beautiful, love the scored border.
ReplyDeleteWow. Love your layout Jenny.
ReplyDeleteFantastic Jenny! You def are on a roll these days! All your cards are winners! :)
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness Jenny, this is so fabulous. Your heat embossing is fabulous. The pop of the berries is the perfect finish. One little tip on the masking - if you use masking tape, stick it on to your clothing and take it off several times before you use it on your project. It reduces the amount of stick, but still works to keep whatever you are using in place. I use a roll of "artist tape" that I got at an art supply store. It is much less tacky than regular masking tape. Your card is stupendous! I hope you can work it out and tame your computer.
ReplyDeleteLove the simplicity of this card. Stunning!
ReplyDeleteJenny this is lovely, who cares if it's a bit smaller - it is a pretty card made with love. Have you tried using the Stix2 masking tape? It's the only one that has worked for me, it doesn't take a layer of the card with it when I remove it! Karen x
ReplyDeleteLove the frame you made with your nestie...beuatiful card...
ReplyDeletesorry for the late comment so busy this week, but better late than never!
Anne

ReplyDeleteI'm finally catching up with your lovely cards....this is absolutely beautiful and festive!! Wonderful font and sentiment on your computer generated... I love your holly panel...your card is amazing!!!...I didn't read all your comments, but I use Eclipse tape...great for masking, and I use it to keep my dies in place...works pretty well:)! Here's a link to what it looks like, think I bought mine here, but you might try over there: http://www.blockheadstamps.com/Craft-Adhesive/Masking-Tape/Eclipse%20Tape
