Florals in a Frame

I'm sharing my DT card from the Make the Day Special blog as it's made with a couple of challenges in mind. The ladies at Less is More are asking us to choose three previous challenge themes for our creation this week and the sketch at CAS(e) this Sketch helped me to collate my ideas....

The three LiM challenges I've used are Wk. 54 Stripes, Wk. 79 Blue & Green and Wk 111 Frame it
and here's the sketch from CTS this week

The flowers and leaves are the Doodle Blooms stamp set from Altenew, the matching
dies have just arrived in the UK and I couldn't wait to buy them...
they make flower arranging so much easier..Lol :)

Thanks for stopping by :)

Coloured Pencils

It's my turn to post a card over at the Make the Day Special Stamp Store blog today so I thought I'd share it here too. I was inspired by a fab card in our monthly challenge gallery, Kate acheived the retro fabric feel on her card by using masking and minimal colouring... it's just so cool :)

I used a Paper Smooches pencil stamp instead and some bright coloured Promarkers... not so retro but I love the off-set style of the pattern :)

I took a couple of photos of the process to make the background ....

I made several masks of the pencil and stuck them down on the panel before sponging the background colour. I didn't worry about cutting the masks exactly along the lines as it's quite a simple shape.

After removing the masks I stamped the pencils in Memento and made sure I off-set them... then I used the chisel end of my Promarkers to add some swishes and flicks of colour :)
Instead of using the whole piece I chopped into two and made a couple of cards :)

Those bright colours really make me happy and I think I'll need to experiment with other stamps and this technique :)

Thanks for stopping by :)

Paper Smooches Sparks - Anything Goes

Good Sunday morning to you and Happy Mothering Sunday if you are in the UK :)

It's time for the new Paper Smooches Sparks challenge and it's Anything Goes this week which means you can be free with your PS stamps and dies :) I was in a floral mood this week with Mothers day on the horizon so I combined the two for my Mum's card...

I'd used these gorgeous flowers from Blossoming buds before but not with my Promarkers and I was in a colouring mood so that's what I went with :) Colouring is a relaxing form of crafting for me and I love the freedom of colour choice for flowers so I went with bright!!
I trimmed around them with scissors as I don't have the dies and then used them as a corner embellishment for a piece of vellum which is the centre piece from the largest Scalloped Frames dies. The sentiment is from the same stamp set and embossed in silver.

Here's the links to my teamies playing along in this weeks challenge too...

3D Stencilling and Published Penguins!!

I have quite a few stencils which don't get used as often as they should so after seeing this video by Jennifer Mcguire on a cool stencilling technique I had to have a go too.... I'm all for stretching your stash ;)

This is a stencil by Hero Arts called Triangle pattern, the shapes are quite large and I love the structural pattern they create by layering the inks and off setting the stencil... a perfect background for Lawn Fawns Cacti!! :)

To acheive some dimension on these little guys I used Prisma or coloursoft pencils.... one of my fave techniques :)
*************
Whilst I'm here I wanted to share a card I made for last months Craft Stamper magazine with Mama Elephants Arctic Penguins... I don't usually share these cards but I'm particularily proud of this one because it involves a bit of masking as it's one layer and I made it in one take...amazing!!!

I wanted to make a group of penguins with the two sizes in the set and I'm really happy how they came together :)  Did you know a group of penguins is called a "Rookery" "waddle" or "colony" if they are on land and a "raft" if they are out at sea........ I think I prefer waddle for this little party :)

Paper Smooches Sparks - Picture Perfect Challenge

It's a photo Inspiration challenge this week for you at the Paper Smooches Sparks blog ...

Theres a lot of scope in that photo... word art, colours and patterns and with my nephews birthday coming up it was just the inspiration I needed :)

I've used the Patterns 1 dies with pigment inks to give a letterpress effect on the shaped background pieces for the Sassy Letters dies. I love the colours and textures.... great for a guys card.
The sentiment was cut twice and layered then a generous coating of glossy accents applied..... they look like they're made from shiny vinyl and the font is pretty cool too :) The rest of the sentiment was made using the Mini Monograms stamp set.

Here are the links to teamies playing along, please go and check out their fab creations too :)

All the details can be found over at the Sparks blog here, hope to see you in the gallery :)

A Couple of Cards

Well that's the most original blog post title isn't it!!!

Yep these two cards are DT projects for Make the Day Special Stamp Store... which, by the way, is the best online stamp store in the UK stocking US stamp brands.... okay I may be a little biased but seriously, Tara does an amazing job :)

The store has a monthly challenge and yesterday saw the start of our colour challenge for March...

Just pick a palette and use at least three colours in your project and remember to use at least one product from the store too :)

Heres my card based on the far right palette using  Lawn fawn dinosaurs and a sentiment from Paper Smooches....

At the moment the card is blank inside but I think the sentiment should continue  ".....especially for a dinosaur!!" :) If you'd like to play along you can find all the details and Mr Linky here, a £15 store voucher is up for grabs :)

My DT card today uses the 'New in Store' Avery Elle stamp set called Super, perfect for my little brother's birthday card yesterday... perhaps I should've saved it for next year as he's a leap year baby and he'll be ten next February in proper birthdays :)

This was great fun to make especially as I have an old paper pad with half tone patterns amongst the patterns. I added dimension behind the clouds and skyline to create my scene and personalised it with a Lawn Fawn alphabet.... it's a good match for comic book fonts :)
