Welcome to the Jubilee weekend ...... guess who this is???
Yep it's me..... dressed as the Queen of hearts for the Silver Jubilee celebrations in 1977 aged almost 4.
That's my bit of patriotism for this post because I've not got organised and made a Jubilee themed card for my Make the Day Special post this weekend!! I'm not too great at putting two and two together like that and life has been pretty hectic this week too, as the kids wind down for the half term break, wind down is probably not the best choice of words as James is rather looking forward to a week off school...it's me that has been winding down!!!
So as my blog title suggests my card is blue and white...it's just missing the red, so it's almost patriotic....
I tried stepping out of my 'love of colouring black lined images' comfort zone to try my hand at inking with these Donna Downey Unity stamps. I just cannot get the emboss resist technique to work in an inky scene and you can see my first failed attempt on the butterflies... I punched them out of the spent card..... I quite like the pattern on their wings :0)
I decided to just try a small area through an aperture like my blog pal Therese did on these gorgeous card here and here . I used a few shades of Distress ink to make the scene and some stickles to highlight the seed-heads. I really love the part embossed section on the panel ... unfortunately I stuck it on wonky though!!
I'm sure I'll be back with a patriotic creation at some point this holiday weekend, I've just seen the challenge at Less is More so make that a definite then!.
I was dressed as the Queen of Hearts in the photo above for the fancy dress competition at our street party for the Silver Jubilee... look at the line up, I just love the homemade outfits.... there was not a great choice of dressing up outfits then!!
My amazingly clever Mum made my whole costume, I think, from an old sheet and pillowcase.... the jam tarts were definitely homemade :0)
It was a rather clever move to go with a royal character because I remember that I won a dolly for first prize, oh how times have changed :0)
Thanks for stopping by today on my nostalgia trip :0)
Have a great Jubilee weekend...... I hope the weather doesn't dampen the celebrations too much!
Jenny x
Hi there, well you really took me back to the good old days, although I am a child of the sixties then was an age when our mums worked miracles with a few scraps and I have some old photos which are so similar especially the cowboy outfit my brother had one practically the same. Love your fabulous card and could not see anything wonky or un toward looks pretty perfect to me.Beautiful design and layout and of course to me the stamping is superb. Whatever you do enjoy your weekend.

Fabulous card, Jenny. Nothing looks wonky...to me it looks perfect!
ReplyDeleteYour photo's are lovely and make me feel very old. I was busy making similar outfits out of crepe paper for the little girls of my work colleagues in 1977 x
Sometimes we're supposed to make mistakes as I adore the embossed pattern on the butterflies and you'd never have done that if the inking went right first time!
ReplyDeleteLove your Queen of Hearts - I can't remember if we did the Silver Jubilee or not - Mum swears we never had a street party but I remember one but think it may have been Charles and Di's wedding....

Could not get over that sweet little girl in the picture! Life was different then, Mom made most of our clothes because it was cheaper. Not true these days. That is a beautiful card. Good for you for using the pieces for the butterflies and for moving out of the comfort zone!
ReplyDeleteLook at how cute you were in 1977!! You are the cutest Queen of Hearts I've ever seen!! Where was I in 1977? Graduating from high school!! LOL Love the GORGEOUS scene that you created with the aperture and the stunning resit on the butterfly wings is perfect!! Happy Silver Jubilee!!
ReplyDeleteLove these photos Jenny - they definitely took me back in time! I was too old to dress up, lol, as I was 19! The years have flown!
